Main Concepts
Interpret quotients as a number of objects in each share.
Interpret models as division expressions (Pictorial representation of 15 shapes being divided into 3 equal groups of 5 as 15 / 3 = 5).
In the equation c ÷ a = b interpret ÷ to mean split into [a] equal groups or split into equal groups of [a].
Split quantities into equal groups (whole number quotients only).
Quantities split into equal groups will not have a quantity remaining.
Interpret quotients as a number of equal shares.
There are two kinds of division situations depending on which factor is the unknown. The number of objects in each group or the number of groups.
