Instructions

Play through this interactive game to learn about Relationship Between Energy And Forces. Suitable for Grade 6, Grade 7, Grade 8.

Main Concepts

When force is exerted, energy can be transferred to or from an object.
The magnetic force is a non-contact force.
The gravitational force is a non-contact force.
When two objects are in direct contact, they exert a contact force on one another.
When the distance between objects interacting within a force field changes, the amount of potential energy stored in the system changes.
An inclined plane reduces the amount of force needed to lift an object to a particular height by extending the distance over which the object is lifted.
Work is the application of a force to move an object over a distance.
If a force does not move an object over a distance, no work is done on the object.
An inclined plane does not change the total amount of work done to lift an object to a particular height.

Discussion Questions

Before the Game

How can you change the direction of a ball? Explain how you know if a force has been exerted on a ball? What force keeps us here on the ground? What happens if you kick the ball hard vs. softly?

After the Game

Give an example of a contact and non-contact force. Explain how the amount of force affected the marble and how you were able to change the force. How was the energy transferred from the black to red marble? Why was it too hard to make the marble go up the inclined plane and what was the solution? How did a magnet affect the marble? Explain how energy moves from potential energy to kinetic energy.
