Description

Help the little Fish to escape from its boring life by using all states of matter in favor of its escape. Open the way for the Fish! Navigate through the pipes with liquid, freeze water so you can pass over it, avoid getting close to any plasma around the level, use vapor and condense it back and transport water to other areas, and cool down the lava so it doesn't fry the Fish. Play with interactive elements and understand states of matter in a practical way!

Instructions

Play through this interactive game to learn about States of Matter and their Structure. Suitable for Grade 6, Grade 7, Grade 8.

Main Concepts

There are four states of matter: solid, liquid, gas, and plasma.
A liquid maintains its volume, but flows to take the shape of its container.(MS)
State of matter is an extrinsic property of matter that depends on conditions such as temperature and pressure.
In a gas, particles of matter are widely spaced except when they collide.
A gas can flow and expand to take the volume and shape of its container.(MS)
A solid maintains its shape and volume.
In a gas, particles of matter move relative to one another and do not remain in contact.
In a solid, particles of matter vibrate in place and do not move relative to each other.
In a solid, particles of matter are closely spaced.
In a liquid, particles of matter move relative to one another but remain in contact.
A substance in solid form is generally denser than the substance in liquid form.
A substance in liquid form is generally denser than the substance in gas form.
Atoms and molecules are in constant motion.

Discussion Questions

Before the Game

What are the three most common states of matter? How does matter move from one state to another? What is all matter made of?

After the Game

How would you describe the shape of a liquid? What atmospheric conditions cause liquid, like water, to change its state? What is the relationship between density and state of matter? How do molecules in a solid move?
