Welcome to "The Gilded Age Shuffle," an educational card puzzle game where you shape the course of American history! Step into the late 19th century and play through four distinct eras as an Inventor, an Industrialist, a Tycoon, and a Labor Leader. Your goal is to combine cards representing historical concepts—from the "Lightbulb" to the "Labor Union"—to unlock new ideas and witness the chain of events that defined the era.   Face challenging scenarios based on historical events, use your knowledge to find the best solutions, and learn about the key figures, inventions, and movements that forged modern America.

Discussion Questions

Before the Game

What do you remember about the Industrial Revolution and who were the inventors? Who were the Robber Barons, and what was the Gilded Age? If you became extremely wealthy, do you think that you have the obligation to give back to society? Why or why not? If you invented something that would change the way everyone lived positively, how could you make sure that people also didn't get hurt by it?

After the Game

State two necessary reforms. How did the rise of Industry lead to the need for labor protections?
