The animals from the shelter camp have escaped, and it’s up to you to bring them back! Use coordinates to locate and rescue the animals, then return them safely to the camp. Once rescued, the fun continues. You can play and interact with the animals.

Main Concepts

Where the x-axis and y-axis meet is called the origin and it represents 0 for both axis - the point is therefore (0, 0).

The first number in an ordered pair is labeled the x coordinate and the second the y coordinate and is expressed as (x, y).

Use a pair of perpendicular number lines, to define a coordinate system with the intersection of the lines arranged to coincide with the 0.

When locating a point on the graph, you would first move from the origin horizontally as marked by the x value and then move vertically from that point as denoted by the y value.

Before the Game

In games like Battle Ship, how does a grid help us find the location of the ships? Why is it important to have an exact mathematical system to describe where an animal is, rather than just saying 'it’s over there'? When pinpointing an exact location on a grid, which direction do we move first?

After the Game

When you were searching for the lost animals, why did the order of the two numbers matter? What would happen if you first moved up and down instead of from left to right?
